A broadly-spreading tree with glossy dark-green leaves and slender white flower racemes late spring and summer followed by black berries. A good screening tree and popular hedging plant. Can be grown as a topiary standard for a more formal design. Berries are poisonous to animals. Not tolerant of wet sites. Evergreen. Cold and drought hardy
